London, UK, April 17, 2018 – Ikegami Electronics (Europe) will demonstrate two recent additions to its range of broadcast-quality cameras at the Media Production Show in London's Olympia exhibition centre, June 12-13. Exhibiting on stand 514, Ikegami will be represented by Trev Sword and Simon East from the company's UK branch in Sunbury-on-Thames.
HDK-73 3-CMOS Full-HD High Dynamic Range Camera
The HDK-73 is a dockable multi-role high-definition camera designed for standard-dynamic-range and high-dynamic-range broadcast production. It is available as complete system including CCU, connecting fibre, viewfinder and remote control. Image capture is to 2/3-inch 2.6 megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of capturing full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution images with an extremely wide dynamic range of more than 600%, high sensitivity (F13 at 50 Hz) and high signal-to-noise ratio. The sensors natively support 1080i/59.94 and 1080i/50, as well as 720p/59.94 and 720p/50 scan formats. Major features include full digital signal processing, advanced digital detail correction with independent horizontal and vertical correction of red, green and blue signals, and optional anti-moiré filtering.
Hybrid log gamma processing is operator-selectable for HDR picture origination, enabling high-contrast scenes to be televised with full picture detail across the entire brightness range from highlights, mid-range to shaded areas. Full digital signal handling is performed by a newly developed processor operating in up to 38 bit depth.
The HDK-73's dockable structure allows studio configuration with fibre base stations, as well as self-contained operation with a camera adapter for wireless or onsite recording applications. A fibre adapter can be attached directly to the camera head without need for external cables. External devices such as wireless transmission or a solid state HDD recorder can be attached for stand-alone operation, making the camera suitable for live sports, news-gathering or field production.
An optional system expander (SE-H750) converts the portable camera into a full facility studio camera with studio viewfinder and studio lenses. Conversion between portable and studio configuration can also be achieved quickly. The HDK-73 is fully compatible with the new T-430 tripod mounting plate or the conventional T-791A plate. The T-430 provides increased stability and strength in holding the camera. For ease of use, the camera can slide into the plate from either the front or rear foot of the camera.
All critical creative functions can be accessed easily on the camera itself. Quick EZ Focus assist and chromatic aberration correction allow fast adjustment when shooting live. The Quick EZ Focus Assist function provides enhancement to the viewfinder feed for critical focus adjustment. The size of area, area colour, edge colour and display time are adjustable in the camera menu. Customers can choose between three high performance viewfinders: a 2 inch LCD monocular, a 7.4 inch direct-view OLED or 7 inch LCD viewfinder.
Ikegami's OCP-100 matching controller provides push button and rotary encoder operation and includes functions such as colour temperature adjustment. The optional model OCP-300 supports Ikegami's conventional one-by-one ICCP control and Arcnet based control systems plus Ethernet based control. The OCP-300 includes a touch screen LCD with rotary encoders and an SD memory card slot for full camera setup and data filing. Also available is the compact OCP-10 which can control basic functions such as iris, white balance, black balance, paint, gamma and master black. Ideal for field production or under limited space situations, the OCP-10 supports Ethernet based control allowing customers to choose between Ikegami’s traditional ICCP control and Ethernet based control system. The OCP-300 supports Power over Ethernet plus (PoE+).
Two 1.5G HD-SDI output signals are selectable between camera, viewfinder, return and monitor, including the ability to monitor an incoming feed. The base stations for the HDK-73 support four channels of return video. The selected channel can be output at the camera as HD-SDI, upconverted if the input is SD, and used to feed a talent monitor. A separate prompter channel with an SD input at the base station and SD output at the camera is also provided.
Also, compatible with the HDK-73 is the BSF-300 base station. The BSF-300 and FA-300 fibre adapter can accept either a common optical LC-Duplex connector for single-mode fibre cables or a mating OpticalCON DUO connector for hybrid fibre/copper camera cables. This allows cost-efficient and flexible integration for a variety of applications. The PSU-300 supplies power to the fibre adapter and camera head via a hybrid cable whilst the connection to the base station is via a pair of fibres, this extends the overall cable length.
Ikegami UHK-430 3-CMOS UHD Camera
The Ikegami UHK-430 is a high-end UHD camera employing three newly-developed 3840 x 2160 native 2/3 inch CMOS sensors which provide full resolution plus the depth of field required for studio and outdoor production. The UHK-430 allows very high quality UHD and high dynamic range production while at the same time interfacing easily with current HD systems. Ikegami's iLog (HLG) can be used to achieve high contrast to handle high dynamic range. Based on logarithmic gamma processing, this integral feature allows more image information to be retained for greater headroom and colour grading.
Two-piece construction allows the concept of the optical extender block adaptor to enable the sensor head to be detached as a compact unit for easy deployment on a support devices such as long-reach manually-controlled camera poles. In this mode, the head can be operated up to 50 metres from the camera body. The head can also be replaced by other assemblies as they become available, such as a Super 35mm large-sensor front-end compatible with Positive Lock lenses. Camera heads for special applications will also become available as part of the UHK-430 product range, including a high frame-rate version. Additional system features include 12G and IP CCU outputs and a newly designed Ikegami processor which allows 40 gigabit/s uncompressed video transmission.
In its standard form, the UHK-430 weighs just 4.5 kg and is used with a 2 inch viewfinder and portable lens. An integral B4 bayonet mount allows direct docking with conventional 2/3 inch 4K lenses. 4K content can be produced for demanding applications such as live remote, sports or events just as easily as for conventional HD programmes. Camera head dimensions are 149 mm x 243 mm high x 340 mm front-to-back.
"The new processor enables the UHK-430 to deliver a wide range of features including a 16-axis colour matrix and focus-assist for 4K and HD video modes," comments Ikegami Electronics UK general manager Trev Sword. "BT.2020 extended colour space specification is supported in 4K mode. BT. 709 colour space is supported in HD modes and can also be switched in during 4K operation. The processor also contributes to low power consumption."
Designed for use with the UHK-430, the compact 3U 18.5 kg model CCU-430 camera control unit supports easy migration from HD to 4K live production. Features include switchable 4 x 3G-SDI 4K output as well as HD output. An optional plug-in board makes UHD video, HD video, and HD cutout from UHD available simultaneously. Other options include 12G-SDI and video-over-IP interfaces and the SE-U430 system expander which allows use of a studio viewfinder and large studio lens with digital interface on Unicam XE series cameras.
A built-in 40 gigabits per second optical transceiver enables full bandwidth UHD resolution signal transmission between camera and CCU. Uncompressed RGB 4:4:4 signals allow very high quality chroma keying. Dual HD outputs are provided for prompter and talent monitor feeds plus return video lines from studio to viewfinder. The camera also has a Gigabit Ethernet data port to allow networked control.
